A Matter of Communication

In many cases, the dissemination of false information has way more followers than its denial. The worst feature of this mechanism is its own ability to turn into “reality”facts that are far away from even the shadow of what’s real. Sometimes all this happens because of the frenzy of the word-of-mouth, some other times there is a clear intent to spread false news.

Earlier this year, for example, the National Broadcasting Company (Nbc) presented to the world a fascinating story. Supposedly, a group of adventurers was traveling across Australia. More specifically, they were exploring the Blue Mountains when they noticed a very atypical, unusual plant that looked a lot like the famous cannabis. After examining it, the group decided to collect a sample of the singular vegetable and carry into a research laboratory at the University of Sydney. After thorough examinations, the investigation confirmed the suspicions of the hikers: the small plant they found isolated from the world was a new species of cannabis.

Some newspapers went even further, celebrating the plant and its ability to adapt to the most incredible environmental circumstances. All this continued until a group of writers who worked for Cannabis Culture contacted the University of Sidney, which supposedly was the original authoritative source of the unbelievable news. Ready for some more exciting details, the journalists found themselves facing an interesting truth: there was no research about this, and no hikers came by with a new species of cannabis.

Obviously no one came forward, the plant never appeared, and the news proved to be totally false. Rushing forward to produce a story and arouse the curiosity of as many readers as they could, both newspapersand news agencies forgot to check the actual source and/or investigate the veracity of the story.

For those who have stumbled upon this news, let’s repeat it: this was simply an example of bad journalism, and there is no new species of cannabis around. What you can find, however, is a bunch of amazing strains that can truly change your mind about cannabis, way more effectively that a bunch of unconfirmed rumors. Just go to http://greenhouseseeds.nl/ and you’ll understand what I am talking about. And the next time you hear about magic trips of mysterious hikers who find strange plants in the middle of a deserted landscape, and then rush to Sidney and change the world forever…well, ask yourself twice if all that is true. In the end, it’s all a matter of communication.
