Nancy Grace vs. 2 Chainz

If there was any doubt that mainstream American news is nothing more than one massive circus, Nancy Grace has managed garner an enormous amount of attention recently all while putting her foot squarely in her mouth in a debate with hip-hop artist Tauheed Epps, more famously known by his professional moniker 2 Chainz. During a recent interview segment on Grace’s show 2 Chainz calmly discusses the legalization of cannabis with Nancy Grace.

Throughout the segment Grace irately flips from anecdote to anecdote, while also bringing up a few extraordinarily bizarre cases wherein toddlers were being given marijuana for consumption by their caregivers. Following this Grace then jumps to some truly wild conclusions. For example, about halfway through the news segment Grace claims that with the legalization of cannabis people will have “unlimited access” to pot. Apparently, Grace seems to think that smokers are not restrained by their bank accounts.

2 Chainz by contrast remains an admirable degree of tranquility and brings up the fiscal wastefulness of the drug war along with the disruption it brings into the lives of peaceful people. Needless to say Grace is hardly phased by any of this and continues to blather.

To be fair 2 Chainz during the interview does refer to harassment he received from police for possessing marijuana residue, to which Grace does slightly concede to be a wasteful use of public resources, but immediately after Grace launches into tirade about children being given cannabis by their parents. This is predictably supplemented by other proclamations of societal downfall which wouldn’t be uncommon to see on Fox News.

Of course, like any good American newscaster Grace evidently has no strong convictions as she spoke sympathetically two years ago with respect to Trayvon Martin possessing cannabis in his system. Grace used this fact to then assert that people, or at least Martin, are less likely to be involved in criminal activity. This strongly contrasts with Grace’s statements made during her interview with 2 Chainz, as well as other statements made on her show wherein she’s associated cannabis with all manner of crime including murder and theft.

But to sum up the 2 Chainz interview it’s nothing more than the typical reactionary exchange, fueled almost entirely by Grace’s force of verve. You’re not missing much if you chose not to look it up, but the Grace-2 Chainz exchange may be something to look at while you’re packing a bowl. In summation I think BGR.com put it best, “[i]t’s the not best debate performance we’ve ever seen but when you’re going up against Nancy Grace and her Anecdotes of Doom, it doesn’t have to be.”
