A Few Words on Indiana: Freedom and Cannabis

Sometimes laws go beyond the goals of the legislators, they come to life and little by little open doors and possibilities that nobody would have ever foreseen. That’s precisely what’s happening in Indiana, where a law that was meant to protect the freedom of religion could become the legal mean to cannabis legalization. It seems absurd, but that’s precisely what happening. The first Church of Cannabis Inc. has already been authorized, precisely thanks to the above-mentioned law. Bill Levin, the founder of the church, has presented the documents as soon as the governor, Mike Pence, signed the law.

Levin wanted to create a church based on love, understanding and respect.

Soon after he presented all the documents requested by the state of Indiana, Bill received a letter signed by Connie Lawson, the Secretary of State: his requested was approved, and pretty quickly too. The use of cannabis, called “curative plant “by the members of the institution, is part of the commandments of the church. The so-called Cannataerians, in fact, believe that cannabis is a source of health and love, which are two of the main constitutive elements of the Church of Cannabis, an instrument to cure depression and diseases of various kind. Truth be told, these Cannataerians are not exactly wrong on this.

In a few days after the official confirmation of its existence, the Church of Cannabis have collected over 5,000 dollars and more than 25,000 Likes on Facebook. And, of course, Bill Levin and his team have received a huge amount of media attention, which have certainly helped the cause of the Cannataerians. This is an extremely interesting story, made of contradictions and legal cracks, power and opportunism, but also knowledge and hope, especially for the pot-lovers who live in Indiana.

If you want to be part of the church, the only thing you have to do is donate 4.20 dollars every month. If you pay those, you will able to print an official statement that says you are part of the church. Both the initiative and its great success are a demonstration of the desire many people have to buy some good pot (http://greenhouseseeds.nl/), grow a cannabis plant and just be happy.

At the end of the day, love, peace and serenity aren’t exactly bad, wouldn’t you agree? And, all considered, being part of the Church of Cannabis doesn’t seem like the bad idea.
