Long been the face of marijuana use, activism, and legalization Bob Marley image has been used unofficially in (usually illegal) marijuana products and advertising. However, with a recent trend in cannabis tolerance in many countries preceded by a laisse-faire attitude towards the plant one company has taken the bold step to use Bob Marley’s image for the first ever global cannabis brand called Marley Natural.

.
The firm Privateer Holdings, based in Seattle where cannabis consumption is now recently been made legal, is responsible for this intrepid marketing and distributing venture. Having struck a legal deal with the Marley family, Privateer Holdings plans to sell licensed strains of cannabis with the famous reggae musician’s icon visage. Not just limited to smoking strains though, Marley Natural products will also include lotions, creams, and other goods infused with cannabis.
Interestingly enough the Marley family is in full support of this venture. “My dad would be so happy to see people understanding the healing power of the herb,” said Cedella Marley as part of a company statement. Other members of the family seem to be enthusiastic about the business deal.

.
While Marley Natural has all of the standards for internet advertising, than being a website, twitter account, facebook page, and youtube channel, they seem to already stay ahead of any legal or media trouble they may get into. For example, their website has an “are you eighteen” function built into its website homepage.

.
What will be most interesting is how Marley Natural handles distribution in the face of possible future legal problems, especially with respect to distribution. After all Marley Natural’s headquarters are located in New York where cannabis is officially decriminalized but not legal, their growing houses are in Vancouver, and their client base is in various states, provinces, and countries where cannabis possession, solicitation, and consumption is either in a legal grey zone or totally illegal.

.
However, with these hurdles in place this daring marketing campaign may spark additional freedom-oriented change. For example, reports indicate that much to the benefit of Rastafarians the Jamaican government may consider legalizing cannabis in order to keep up with the ever-changing world market. Likely due in part to religious activists who’ve been somewhat scorned by Marley Natural being located in America, this legislation could even be passed as soon as next year.
