Marijuana is a recreational drug that has various uses. Smoking pot has various obvious health benefits. Its use in medicine has been encouraged by various doctors who understand its power. Due to the misuse of this powerful plant, it is banned all around the world with a few exceptions.
Slowly, countries like United States of America are realizing that the medicinal uses of this plant trump the disadvantages, which is why many states in the country are making medicinal marijuana legal. What if other countries follow the lead of US and the world comes together to legalize medical marijuana? Here are a few things that could happen:
No More Glaucoma:
Glaucoma is one of the most common eye diseases that cause blindness to millions of people. This disease increases the intraocular pressure in the eyeball due to which the optic nerve is damaged and vision is permanently lost. Marijuana smoking decreases this pressure. This means that it would prevent glaucoma patients to lower the intraocular pressure and make the pressure normal. Blindness would be prevented as the disease progression would be slowed down.
Prevention of Epileptic Seizures:
A study in 2003 showed that marijuana can prevent seizures in people with epilepsy. The key ingredient THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) controls seizures as it binds to the brain cells that are responsible for regulating relaxation and controlling excitability. It’s not just epileptic seizure that can be treated with marijuana. A severe seizure known as Dravet Syndrome can also be treated using marijuana.
Less and Curable Cancer Patients:
Cannabis has CBD, which helps in preventing cancer from spreading. It turns off a gene Id1 that is used by cancer cells to spread through the body. Some studies have even shown CBD could kill the cancer cells too. If medical marijuana is made legal, more research can be done on this front and even cancer might be cured.
No More Bowel Diseases:
Billions of people around the world, especially women suffer from bowel diseases like Chron’s disease. Marijuana is known to significantly reduce the symptoms of Chron’s disease. In some people, research has showed complete removal of the disease. Marijuana can really help relieve pain and improve stomach health.
If medicinal cannabis is made legal all around the world, almost all countries would start researching on the medical positives of marijuana. With US taking the lead, it is possible that this dream becomes a reality soon.
