Cannabis and Heat: The Ultimate Connection
A curiosity that I believe you will appreciate.
Illegal cannabis growers maybe don’t even know this, but snow could very well be their worst enemy. In cold countries, such as the Netherlands (the first country that popped into my mind, of course), police officers look at the roofs to find out whether or not there is an unauthorized cannabis site nearby.
How and why do they do that? Let me explain. In order to grow and be healthy, we all know cannabis requires temperatures higher than those you usually find inside a house, right? Good. Hot air moves upwards, the heat gets to the roof and the snow melts. Basically, you are a policeman, it’s winter, you look up and you ask yourself: ok, is there snow on that roof? If the answer is yes, you can move on. If the answer is no, you could very well decide there is something suspicious going on in that house.
Believe it or not, Dutch policemen are very careful and quite proud about this method, which in return has allowed them to identify dozens of illegal plantations. For instance, I remember reading about a couple of officers who found 88 cannabis plants in a small house in Zutphem. And then there was an arrest in Arnhem, which happened under very similar circumstances (just to be clear, cultivating cannabis in the Netherlands is not completely illegal, but you can only grow 5 plants and walk around with no more than 5 grams of pot).
Of course, if you want to grow pot you will need heat no matter where you are, and this fact translates into different kinds of methods of surveillance. In England, officers don’t go around looking for snow and roofs, but they do own helicopters equipped with heat detectors. In order to warn illegal growers, in 2013 the same British police released a video in which you can see a plantation that get spotted via an infrared detector. It’s almost scary, if you think about it. Obviously some growers are running for cover, using insulating panels for both walls and ceilings. Nevertheless, the vast majority of the farmers are still vulnerable to these methods of surveillance.
Honestly, the best choice you can make is this: forget about illegal growing and buy cannabis via legal channels. For instance, you can visithttp://greenhouseseeds.nl/ and find the best strains you will even encounter, and you won’t even have to think about snow or heat. Enjoy your pot, and be happy!
