Enjoying Cannabis This Summer

Summer is getting closer and closer, and it is carrying with it the desire to get out of the house, take a walk and enjoy an ice cream. The fresh flavor of tropical fruits, strawberries and blueberries, the creaminess of the most delicious chocolate, the softness of the classic pistachio … but what about a new flavor, the marijuana flavor? You’ve probably already heard about Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, the founders of Ben&Jerry, who recently said to the Huffington Post they won’t say know to a cannabis flavor, if cannabis jumps completely out of the shadows of illegality.

The famously openminded Dutch, however, have decided not to wait for Ben&Jerry to make their move, and they are already offering their version of marijuana ice cream. Truth be told, the ice cream doesn’t really make you high. It is made with seeds, which get rolled and pressed until they turn into a tasty paste.

This said, the idea of producing a THC ice cream is floating around, and it is certainly a stimulating thought for the many artisans and young enthusiasts who work in this interesting, sweet sector. As a matter of fact, cannabis is now standing in a global gray area, between legality and illegality, a space where innovation and ideas run freely, and where corporations are still unable to position themselves and their game-changing investments.

If I think about it, I wouldn’t be surprised to see young men and women getting high next summer with their cannabis ice cream as they walk down the street of Amsterdam, Seattle or Denver. In fact, initiatives and products are already too many to be counted. Think about all the cookies, sauces, cakes, creams, cold drinks and teas that come with some sort of cannabis-based ingredients. I am sure you know what I am talking about, and you are probably one of those people who are already experimenting with the craziest recipes using high quality cannabis (which you can buy here http://greenhouseseeds.nl/).

The funny thing is that soon we will probably find ourselves dealing with big food corporations, just like Ben&Jerry, that try to tell us how cannabis “is good for us”. Isn’t it funny? Another little fact that demonstrates how legality, just like health and freedom, is also a matter of business. And maybe one of the reasons why cannabis legalization is flying high at the moment, at least in the US, is precisely because big companies are realizing how profitable it can be.
