The Netsdrop Battle
Netsdrop, the now famous cannabis-delivery app, is fighting with the city of Los Angeles to gain the right to start shipping medical marijuana at home. At the moment, in fact, the service is illegal there, although things could soon change and the battle is quite literally just started. Only a few months ago, it was around mid-October 2014, Netsdrop became the first American company to come up with an app that allowed costumers to buy pot and have it shipped at home: a delivery-cannabis service. Genius. Unfortunately, however, like it often happens to the bravest adventurers among the pioneers, Netsdrop paid the price for being “the first”and soon found itself under attack.
Unsurprisingly enough, last December, a Californian judge concluded that Netsdrpop could not move forward with its activities.
What the authorities wanted was to avoid the proliferation of the service. There is, however, a contradiction here: the sentence is not forcing all the companies born before 2007 to close, and the law actually allows the existence of cannabis-delivery services. As a matter of fact, cannabis-delivery companies do exist. In fact, if you want some pot, you just have to go on websites like speedweed.com, and home-delivery is already an option. What is this then? A kind of personal fight between Netsdrop and the city of Los Angeles? It certainly looks that way, and the creators of Netsdrop are already talking about a crusade against them. Apparently, it’s the “app” part of the deal that the city of Los Angeles really cannot accept.
Truth be told, it looks like Netsdrop also allows people to connect with producers and sellers who are not exactly “legal”- or at least, this is what those who are fighting against the app are claiming. Truly, a very complicated legal issue.
Netsdrop has recently contacted the city of Los Angeles, and the team seems ready to work on the app and make it better, more transparent. This could be a way out, and it would make everyone happy. In fact, no one in California seems ready to slow down the growth of the cannabis sector. In 2014 the market grew by 74% – and you have to consider that, at the moment, medical marijuana is the only cannabis-product that’s actually legal in California.
Think about what would happen if people could buy good quality seeds (see here, if you are interested, http://greenhouseseeds.nl/) and grow their plants in their house in Los Angeles, like they can do in Oregon, Washington, Colorado or Alaska. All considered, something tells us it will happen soon…and it will be great!
