Are You Afraid of Bladder Cancer? Smoke Some pot
A new study was recently published on the academic journal Urology. The objective of the study was “To investigate the association of cannabis use and tobacco smoking on the incidence of bladder cancer within the California Men’s Health Study cohort.”
The results were the following: “Overall 34,000 (41%) cohort members reported cannabis use, 47,092 (57%) reported tobacco use, 22,500 (27%) reported using both, and 23,467 (29%) used neither. Men were followed over an 11-year period and 279 (0.3%) developed incident bladder tumors. Among cannabis users, 89 (0.3%) developed bladder cancer in comparison to 190 (0.4%) men who did not report cannabis use (P < .001). After adjusting for age, race or ethnicity, and body mass index, using tobacco only was associated with an increased risk of bladder cancer (hazard regression [HR], 1.52; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.12-2.07), whereas cannabis use only was associated with a 45% reduction in bladder cancer incidence (HR, 0.55; 95% CI, 0.31-1.00). Using both cannabis and tobacco was associated with an HR of 1.28 (95% CI, 0.91-1.80).”
What does this all mean? According to the researchers who conducted the study, “Although a cause and effect relationship has not been established, cannabis use may be inversely associated with bladder cancer risk in this population.”
The results reported in this 2015 article, published by Anil A. Thomas, Lauren P. Wallner, Virginia P. Quinn, Jeffrey Slezak, Stephen K. Van Den Eeden, Gary W. Chien, Steven J. Jacobsen, are similar to those recorded by other studies that demonstrate the anti-tumor properties of cannabis. In 2006, talking about a research he conducted, Donald Tashkin of the University of California at Los Angeles even claimed that cannabis is good for your lungs. “We hypothesized that there would be a positive association between marijuana use and lung cancer, and that the association would be more positive with heavier use,” he said. “What we found instead was no association at all, and even a suggestion of some protective effect.”
This is great news, and also another demonstration that cannabis is way healthier than tobacco, which for some reason remains legal all over the world. Feel free to go online and purchase some good quality cannabis seeds (http://greenhouseseeds.nl/), and maybe grow your own plant: enjoy the health benefits of this amazing gift coming straight from nature.
The next time you find yourself wondering whether you should smoke cannabis or tobacco, do not hesitate, not even for a second: cannabis is what you should choose. Throw away that pack of cigarettes.
