Law And Health Authorities Collide Over Marijuana In Canada

Controversies would eventually remain, but the world goes with the majority. The ironical situation in Canada gives a lot to ponder upon. The Supreme Court ruling indicates that medical marijuana is legal in all forms while Health Canada disagrees! Health Minister Rona Ambrose believes that there is no scientific evidence about the health benefits of marijuana. Everybody seems to be thinking otherwise going by what many American states are doing. Large scale production of various cannabis based medicines is underway for several diseases like epilepsy. The Canada Supreme Court allows cannabis extracts and derivatives to be used for medical purposes besides smoking it and that would be the most harmful because of the poisonous smoke. Oils, tea, cookies and brownies are all on the wanted list now.

Federal Government disagrees

Strangely enough the Federal Government never accepted the legitimacy of marijuana and according to what the Health Minister said the fight would continue against the Supreme Court ruling. What she says does carry the benefit of doubt that health matters should be left to the health ministry and the court does not understand health issues. The question to ask is whether the health authorities have any negative points about marijuana, even if they do not have any positive ones. Why have they not done their research all these years on the marijuana question?

The question of dried marijuana

The earlier stipulation was that only dried marijuana could be used and everything else was illegal. That did not make sense either and smoking is certainly harmful. Now that the ban has been lifted one can look forward to brownies, cookies, snacks and drinks based on cannabis recipes. The patients should have the right to consume it any way they choose and smoking is certainly not efficient or healthy. Many people abhor smoking too.

The open secret

The truth is that not every cannabis user in Canada is suffering bitter agonies related to sicknesses. A large number of recreational users are it from many age groups, though it may all be illegal. The growing, the cooking and the consumption all seem so much more exciting without the sanction of the law. Yet it is not all that illegal either. Many businesses are doing it openly in the knowledge that legality is around the corner like what happened across the border in USA in Colorado. In any case medical marijuana is grown in Vancouver too.
