American Tribes Too Fall In Love With Marijuana!
So the cannabis fever is not only confined to the vast metros that crowd America and the planet. In any case, why can’t we have a few more Amsterdam like the one in Europe that allows unrestricted marijuana use, a boon for tourists traveling the world. Not everybody is in search of marijuana, though but many people are and they hail from all ages, above and below the legal age of 21.
The first of several tribes presumably
Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe in South Dakota legalized pot for recreational use just like four American states have already done. The tribe owns a casino too and nothing stops the plans for a high end tourism destination in the offing. The experimental marijuana use in the planning would trickle into other tribes if successful. Is there any doubt that the move would bring many takers? Few would resist the 120 room hotel along with the Royal River Casino for hectic parting and holidaying in the resort like atmosphere of the native tribal land! What about other tribes?
How will the tribe manage the marijuana?
The governing body of the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe decided in favor of the liberalization. Consumption can be only upon the tribal land. Besides, the marijuana will be available at a one gram installment with the view to control consumption. Hopefully disputes with state authorities would be avoided with the rationing system. It is certain that legalization puts an end to the otherwise flourishing black market all over the world. Many countries would rather make it legal and reap revenues in plenty.
Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe reservation
The tribe is really big with 6000 acres but the pot rules apply only to the 2000 acres in federal trust. About 300 miles away from Colorado, one of the American states that has completely legalized marijuana. The reservation lies not so far from Sioux Falls City.
Complications of the law
Can the tribes really frame their own laws? Not really because state laws restrict them. In New York, Florida and California, the tribal reservation land comes under state criminal control. Yet certain tribes are getting interested in legal marijuana like the Northern Minnesota Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians. Suquamish is a Washington tribe with similar interests. Fort Peck Assiniboine & Sioux in Montana wish to put up the cannabis question to tribal authorities.
