The Dos and Don’ts of Social versus Medical Marijuana

Now that marijuana is riding high in the laws and in human hearts, we have ample cause to celebrate though the evil reputation of a generation cannot be wiped clean instantly. Marijuana critics still abound in large numbers who take the traditional point of view but don’t you think the harshest critics would sooner or later be tamed by the medical genius of the weed? Akin to the pearl in the oyster and the diamond in the carbon, the medical CBD and THC have remained hidden so long.

Does marijuana control diabetes and obesity too?

Researchers have been making all kinds of claims about its curative powers but we yet await the medicines patented by pharmacy companies that could reach the market very soon. Meanwhile medications continue to be used in the 23 American states of legal medical marijuana for treatment of epilepsy for instance. New research suggests that Type 2 diabetes and obesity may remain under control in a study that contrasted marijuana users with those who didn’t.

Study indicates favorable results

Canadian investigators studied 700 adults aged 18 to 74. Cannabis use in one year resulted in a lower BMI and lower fasting insulin besides lower insulin resistance when compared to those who did not use cannabis. In this adult group a large prevalence of obesity was also noted and the lower BMI and lower fat mass indicates that cannabis did impact obesity patterns too, a huge problem that affects two thirds of adult Americans today. Researches would be ongoing to establish more definite truths.

Have you heard of Seattle Hempfest?

Social events that center on marijuana highs are rather common though not publicized for fear of legal repercussions. The Seattle occasion caters to maybe 100,000 cannabis worshippers and hundreds of stalls put up marijuana products for consumption and sale. Music of course is at the heart of it all as everybody grooves along to piecing beats and sweet lullabies. Nobody really understands the law well and the state and federal laws are perpetually in conflict. Marijuana gardens or cannabis consumption areas were disallowed in the 2015 edition of the festival as a result of state laws. Is that justified? Even tobacco consumption has restrictions and maybe cannabis though legally allowed cannot be consumed everywhere. Restrictions must apply but how?
