A first of its kind, an academic course on the practice and usage of medical cannabis, has been approved by Israel’s Ariel University. Recognized by the council for higher education of Israel, the course is designed for the students in the field of medical administration.
The course got initiated and is led by Dr. Michael Dor, a senior lecturer in health systems at the university’s Faculty of Health Sciences. He is also a chief advisor of the Health Ministry, a former senior ministry official, and family medicine specialist.
The course is designed for the students from the field of medical administration only after they have completed minimum one year of study.
The course structure is very rigorous, and only 117 students have been accepted into this course. The course is aimed at teaching the students the correct and effective uses of cannabis.
In Israel, the use of cannabis for non-medical and recreational purposes is illegal. But, patients with pain, nausea, lack of appetite, and many such problems are licensed by the government to use it. The demand for cannabis to be made legal increased.
Students selected for this unique course will meet the representatives of the anti-drug authority, and they are expected to not oppose cannabis usage for medical purposes.
The course is designed to teach students the history of medical cannabis and its effect on the patients, current laws, and regulations related to cannabis, methods of growing the plant and learning active ingredients present in the plant. The students will be learning different techniques and technology used for farming cannabis and learning the worldwide socio-economic and political behavior of medical cannabis.
The sixth International Jerusalem conference on health policy conducted and presented a survey showcasing that over 90% of patients enrolled in medical cannabis program reported having improvement in their symptoms such as pain and nausea. There are currently over 20,000 patients enrolled in this program.
It also eases the effects of fibromyalgia and epilepsy in children and reduces the side effects of cancer treatments.
It is a huge step taken by Israel to push the global acceptance of cannabis worldwide. The Israel government promoting their professors to initiate this program has taken a huge step towards the positive and right usage of marijuana or cannabis.
It’s a commendable step taken by the Israeli professors and we hope that the other nations also follow suit in the coming years.
