One of the most astute and strongest conclusions that support the usage of medical marijuana is that it effectively reduces and treats chronic pain in some patients.

A new 400-page analysis released by National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine briefly illustrates more than 100 conclusions. Nevertheless, the firm verified and agreed that marijuana has legitimate medical uses. It contradicts the decision of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s decision to maintain marijuana as a schedule I drug, a drug having no medical uses whatsoever.

They further reported that listing the drug as a Schedule I drug creates barriers for researchers and scientists who wish to conduct their research on health and medical uses of marijuana.

“It is often difficult for researchers to gain access to the quantity, quality, and type of cannabis product necessary to address specific research questions on the health effects of cannabis use,” as concluded by the expert authors, led by public health researcher at Harvard, Marie McCormick.

The major points that shed some light on the usage of medical marijuana include:

1. Cannabis can effectively reduce chronic pain, especially if it’s related to multiple sclerosis.

2. It can be used to treat chemotherapy-related vomiting and nausea in some of the cancer patients. Though it does not cure cancer, it can certainly reduce some pain for them.

3. Smoking cannabis cannot lead to any form of cancer such as lung or throat cancer, but smoking it on a regular basis may cause respiratory problems like chronic phlegm. So, it’s advisable not to use marijuana for entertainment purposes.

4. It is used to treat people suffering from poor appetite and weight loss due to some chronic illness such as aids or nerve pain.

5. There is enough evidence that claims that THC, the main psychoactive element found in marijuana, inhibits the brain to form any epilepsy seizures.

6. Marijuana, being anti-inflammatory and with neuroprotective abilities, can be used to treat traumatic brain injuries.

7. In a recent study of rats, marijuana ceased to be effective in enhancing memory problems and Alzheimer’s like diseases. This enabled them to do more research in this.

Hopefully the stacked-up evidence in favor of usage of medical marijuana will steer the government discussions and decisions regarding this. It is up to the people to accept the fact and not exploit it for personal reasons.
