The Israel government has announced that they will be investing millions to facilitate research and development in the field of cannabis. With this, they plan to study all the aspects of marijuana.
This research and studies will undergo through a joint collaboration between Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Health’s cannabis unit. The Ministry of Agriculture’s chief scientist will be joining hands with the team of Medical Cannabis unit. According to executives from both the ministry groups, they will be investing a total sum of ILS 8 million to fund a total of thirteen cannabis study centers.
These studies will be reportedly sponsored by a fund that is solely operated by chief scientist unit. These studies will deal with both biochemical and medical traits of the cannabis plant; they will also study to increase the yield of cannabis crops to produce more medically equipped marijuana.
According to Globes, the medical and biochemical studies basically will deal with specifying and identifying the new ingredients in the cannabis plant and the effects of the newly found ingredients, its involvement for treating colon cancer, treating multiple sclerosis, and testing the abilities of plants for delaying bacteria developments.
Further, the Israel government will also be funding to examine the different ways of developing new and improved technologies for fertilizing and irrigating marijuana plants. With these scientific technologies, they plan to eradicate pests and plant diseases that frequently outbreak the cannabis plants, improve different cannabis strains and types, stem-root technologies to imply grafting and multiply cannabis plants. The government also plans to install national and genetic banks for cannabis plants.
The main aim to initiate this kind of research is to find a proper cure for cancer disease, and to relieve patients from the painful chemotherapies.
These studies will be aided by experts from leading research institutes, hospitals, drug institutes, and universities.
Cannabis is legal in Israel at the national level, and hence this kind of research totally makes sense. If all goes good, this research might do wonders, and shift the entire world paradigm of seeing cannabis as an ill-fated commodity. It is worth spending millions to find out the real benefits of cannabis if it could help the society. We need to wait for a little longer to ensure if cannabis is good.
