Nothing can actually stop all the talks about marijuana of late. As of last December 2016, around 28 states had gone about legalizing medical cannabis and the residents in 8 states had even authorized the sale of recreational pot (for all adults). In comparison, in the year 2012, there were actually no legal recreational states and before 1996, there was not even a single state that had the authorized physicians who could prescribe marijuana for medical reasons.
But, with the Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ take on marijuana, one can be sure that the marijuana’s march in the next few years is definitely going to be a major struggle. Though in the Senate, Jeff was probably regarded as an ardent opponent of marijuana. In one of the drug hearings last year, Sessions actually stated that good people generally do not smoke marijuana to quickly sum up the views on marijuana. Jeff also went on to blame the marijuana-linked traffic fatalities as one of the reasons for not supporting pot and blamed the policies of Obama’s administration for creating these issues.
Jeff Sessions stated that his point of view is that crime certainly follows drugs. During the 70s and the 80s, there were so many lives that were destroyed because of drug abuse. Jeff feels that the drugs these days are actually much more powerful and they are really very addictive in nature too and could possibly destroy a lot more lives. Some really young people have even had their lives totally destroyed. Jeff stated his concern about marijuana and stated that the states could pass any law that they wish to on marijuana; however, he stated that he was not very sure if the nation is going to be a better place if marijuana will be sold across the country. He stated his discomfort about using marijuana.
There have been a lot of people who have been supporting the legalization of marijuana. They may be right in their own ways. However, Jeff feels the other way round. He stated that one day science may prove him to be wrong, but at this point of time he feels it is best to lead a life without marijuana. Jeff also stated that he is known to give his honest opinion always and this time too he states that the United States must not be legalizing marijuana.
