Prevention is always better than cure. Mold or fungus can quickly destroy the cannabis crop. In order to save the crops, one should thoroughly examine the fields and take some precautionary actions to save the plants. The action should be very quick as molds infect the plants very quickly and lead them to death.
For a healthy cannabis plant, a neat and clean environment is very much essential. The following steps are to be followed to resist mold:
-
If you are growing cannabis in a field then make sure the soil circulates air. Add fertile as per the requirement.
-
The humidity level should be at or below 50%.
-
Maintain the temperature between 65°-85° F.
-
If you are growing cannabis inside a room then always have proper ventilation. Air should circulate around all parts of the room. Use fans inside your grow room.
-
Use clean pots and clean tools in case you are involving in any cutting activity.
-
The most important thing is to dispose the diseased plant tissue. Seal the diseased plant or leaf in a plastic bag and then remove them. The best way to destroy them is by burning them off far away from the field.
-
Never leave any leaves to rot in the garbage of your own field or grow room.
How to Spot and Treat Infected Plants?
Both indoor and outdoor cannabis plants suffer from mold infections. You can see powdery mildew as one of the common diseases. You can see them as small white spots or fine dusting of powder on leaves, stems and buds too. If you are a room grower, then it’s time to increase the room’s temperature and humidity levels and spray the affected areas with a solution made out of 2 tsp baking soda per gallon of water. After the first spray, follow with a solution of 1 tablespoon hydrogen peroxide per gallon of water.
Gray molds are also known as “bud rot”, which are very dangerous. Within few days, they can destroy the whole cultivation. You may notice gray areas circling the plant stems turning green leaves into yellow and making the plant slime leading to death. The organisms generally move from the stem into the buds and rot them from inside, thus giving no clue to the farmers. This particular disease acts as an extreme hazard in the garden if precaution is not taken in time.
These steps can be taken to save cannabis from gray mold:
-
Regular inspection of each and every bud.
-
Remove the infected tissue by disposing it in a sealed plastic bag.
-
If plants are near maturity, harvest early if you find gray molds nearby.
-
Use a solution of Serenade if the disease is in its early stage.
These tips can help you prevent mold growth on cannabis plants.
