A person can walk up to a counter and purchase sativa and share seat with friends on a sofa, and do everything publicly, just the way a person does in Amsterdam.
However, it isn’t Amsterdam, but Barcelona, where cannabis is illegal!
And, there are many regions like Barcelona… many other European capitals, such as Slovenia, Ljubljana, Paris and London, etc., where pot selling is completely prohibited.
Of late, cannabis social clubs is emerging all over world. Basically, these clubs serve only members of associations.
People feel that it is quite convenient to become a member and start using marijuana. Members need to pay a small amount of annual fee and once they become member, they can come to association, and choose any pot and sit with friends or play video games or watch TVs. The fancy organizations also serve hot drinks and delicious food!
These clubs operate in nations, where personal intake of small amount of cannabis isn’t prosecuted and technically speaking, it won’t break the law, if one consumes or grows a small amount.
The social marijuana club comes in a legal gray area. When personal consumption happens at the right club, and when people take small amount of pot, it won’t come under illegal activities, say members. If the total amount cultivated and sold matches the legal limits, there won’t be question of illegal trafficking.

However, government has different perception; last month, a Catalonian association was forced to close for weed trafficking.
The authorities are coming up with strict regulations to distinguish good social cannabis clubs from bad associations. Though it is legalized in some parts of the US, the shift started with medical cannabis. Some states have approved the medicines, which are banned by Fed agency.
In European nations, personal consumption is legalized, but selling or growing still remain illegal. Despite if different approach, Europe is heading towards the US. The social clubs encourages smoking with friends, but in limited quantity.
Trekt Uw Plant founder Joep Oomen believes that such clubs are best substitute to large-scale legalization or strict administration monopoly.
In Belgium, having 1 female plant or 3g of weed is legal. Buying hemp for private use is not crime in Slovenia either. Spain’s law lets cultivating and using cannabis for personal use and there are many clubs here.
The member’s size has been increased from 40 to 700 in past 3 years, with 160,000 members till date. France prohibits distribution or consumption, and yet has 500+ underground social clubs. So, the cannabis social clubs are undeniably trending in Europe.
