Cannabis, or weed is exactly what it is, a weed plant, so it can be grown at home very easily. There are few precautions and steps that we have to take to grow, but a few very important factors which need to be considered.

You need to remember that cannabis is a flowering plant, which means it needs to go through two stages, the vegetation period and the flowering period. By growing plants hydroponically you can trick their day/night cycle and increase their growing rate by exposing them to more daylight, which in our case will be artificial light.

During the vegetation period your plants will be getting about 18 hours of light, and 6 hours of dark. During the flowering time it will be 12 hours of light and 12 hours of dark.

In this quick guide we will explain some of the basic principles when planning on growing hydroponic cannabis at home. Stay tuned for a further detailed guide on how to get yourself going.

The main principles for successful growing are:

  • Light

  • Air

  • Temperature and Humidity

  • Growing Medium (soil, perlite, coco coir)

  • Water (PH’ed)

  • Nutrients

Proper place for growing:

You can grow in any enclosed space as long as you can prevent any light leakage (in or out), you can contain the right temperature and humidity, and where you will be able to ventilate the area well have the ability to bring in new air and exhaust the old.

Equipment for growing:

The basic equipment you will need include lights, fans, ph testers (very cheap and easy to get), growing medium, pots, and watering cans and of course, some seeds.

The process:

You generally start by placing your seeds in between some wet paper towels in a dark area and wait for them to germinate. Once the seed is open and ready it is put into a rockwool cube and under light. Once it is big enough and roots are evident it is placed into a put with a growing medium. Usually some coco coir or perelite. Then the growing process begins. 18 hours of light, 6 hours of dark. The plant will be watered regularly and fed with nutrients during the different phases of growth. Once the plant is big enough to begin the flowering stage, the light cycle will change to 12 hour of light 12 hours of dark. The plant will begin to flower and buds will begin to form. This whole process could take between 3 and 6 months, depending on the size of the yield you aim to achieve.
