U.S. investors are expecting complete legalization of cannabis in the year 2017 and are financing cannabis farms all through Canada.
The cannabis industry in Canada is luring investors who are interested in capitalizing on this thriving green gold rush. Many Americans find more opportunities in this industry north of their border rather than at home. The value of the Canadian medical cannabis industry is almost 150 million dollars, which worth nearly 200 million Canadian dollars. And this is expected to grow by roughly twenty times within the coming five years.
Many investors are impressed with the cannabis cultivation facilities in Canada and see it as a major investment. In fact, many industry experts believe that ten years down the lane, most of the leading brands and companies in cannabis industry will be Canadian – such is the potential of the cannabis industry here – it’s growing at an incredibly rapid rate.
In March this year, around 53,649 patients were authorized to use medicinal cannabis in Canada, which is an increase of 190% from the previous year. By July end, this figure had leaped to 82,217.
The Golden Future of Cannabis in Canada
Last October, the Liberal Party of Justin Trudeau came to power, assuring cannabis legalization for recreational use. After 6 months, Jane Philpott (Health Minister) addressed the United Nations General Assembly stating that cannabis legalization law for recreational use would be introduced in 2017. And that would mean cannabis would be sold at province-run liquor shops and pharmacies, reducing the number of users buying it from the black market or illegal dispensaries.
Canada is a market with great potential for cannabis producers, especially since it has a population of over 36 million people. Financial analysts also agree that legalization of cannabis for recreational usage would give rise to a multi-billion dollar industry here.
As per predictions by Jason Zandberg (a financial analyst), the medicinal cannabis market would be worth over $3.6 billion right in the first year following the legalization of recreational cannabis. Within five years, this figure is expected to surge to 5.6 billion dollars. He predicts an even division between recreational and medicinal use.
As for the predictions by the other financial analysts, they put this number ever high up on the ladder.
Just like Switzerland is the global leader in chocolate production, Canada is poised to be one for cannabis production. Seeing the high potential for great financial profits in this space, investors are swarming the area.
