Marijuana Smoking now Allowed in Legal Marijuana Stores in Alaska

Marijuana has long been banned in most of the states in US and its recreational use has called for penalties and punishment. However, with growing calls for its legalisation, many states have reduced the penalties and relaxed the laws about smoking marijuana for its residents. In some states, you can buy medical marijuana if you are suffering from diseases like cancer or AIDS. There are designated shops where you can buy medical marijuana provided you have your doctor’s approval. However, public consumption has always been a taboo and it still attracts punishment for smokers. With the laws getting less strict with time, it comes as no surprise that Alaska has become the first state in USA to have legalised smoking marijuana in the stores which will sell marijuana for recreational use among residents of the state. Although there is no store yet which sell marijuana in Alaska, they will open soon as the legal procedures are completed.

Taking the issue head on

Washington, Colorado and Oregon and Alaska are one of the early states which have legalised recreational smoking of marijuana among adults of age 21 and older. The laws are still strict about where it can be smoked and if those laws are broken, it will still call for penalties and punishment including incineration. Alaska seems to be taking the issue of smoking marijuana publicly head on as it has passed the laws which allow marijuana smokers to smoke inside legal marijuana stores. Alaska passed a resolution last November legalising recreational smoking of marijuana and earlier this year, it passed the law which allows public consumption of recreational marijuana. It is supposed to undergo a legal review under Alaska’s department of law. Although it has not been specific about what it means by public, but it certainly has been the first one among the four early states to regulate and decriminalize public and recreational use of cannabis, marijuana, cannabis oil. It indeed is a step forward for those who have been asking for legalisation of marijuana.

Looking at the future

A few states have taken the right steps towards decriminalisation of marijuana for recreational use apart from medical marijuana use by patients. If we were to take a look at the future, we can safely say that more states will decriminalise marijuana consumption as public demand for responsible yet legal consumption of it increases with time in US.
