The cannabis industry in the United States is witnessing a transformation like no other industry with new developments each week. The legislature of Massachusetts has consented to the plan dedicated to the regulation of the costs of start-ups pertaining to the cannabis industry. A handsome sum of 300,000 dollars will be sent to carry out this regulation in the cannabis industry, which is nascent at the moment. However, the sources have said that this process may be slackened because of the bureaucratic details.
Charlie Baker, the Gov. has signed a budget on Tuesday that was supplemental to the law and this amount of 300,000 dollars was inclusive of this.
The money was then secured in the reserve fund under the responsibility and care of the Finance and Administration Executive office, which is the executive office of the branch that is dedicated to handling and managing the affairs of the state money instead of assigning care to Deborah Goldberg who is the Treasurer.
As stated by law, the treasurer Deborah Goldberg works independently from the executive branch and is assigned with the duties of the creation and the overseeing of the Control Commission of Cannabis. The Cannabis Control Commission is a body that has been newly formulated so that recreational cannabis can be regulated.
A source from the office of Deborah Goldberg said that until and unless the office of Finance and Administration does not release the amount and sends it to the treasurer office, they will not be able to do anything and thus the time for the Cannabis Control Commission to begin the operations might get delayed.
In order to speed up the fund transfer, Deborah Goldberg sent a letter to Kristen Lepore, the Secretary of Finance and Administration on Tuesday and requested that the funds should be transferred to the reserve office accounts so that she can carry out the meetings of the Cannabis Control Commission. The letter also stated that if the resources are inadequate then the Commonwealth will be unable to meet the certain deadlines that have been set by the state law.
A spokesperson from the Finance and Administration Executive Office, Sarah Finlaw said that the executive office will be communicating with the office of the treasurer and transfer the money as requested by them.
But whether the Cannabis Control Commission should work independently or the treasurer office should oversee the operations is yet to be decided by the authorities.
