Cannabis is known to have positive effects in some of the patients. In fact, a page of the official advice of the US government even says that in a lab test it has shown to kill or shrink the cancer cells. A lot of research is underway and the effects are only seen in rodents so far but these are positive developments.

Cancer has always been a dreadful disease and the researchers are busy finding a cure for it. The UK cancer research has warned the patients to use it until some sure shot evidence is found, but those who don’t have any hope left from medical science don’t hesitate to try the cannabis extracts.

Those in favour of weed also advocate that smoking weed is good for lungs. It increases the lung capacity of the smokers and it is not just those in this business who make such claims. In fact, the researchers writing in the Journal of the American Medical Association also second this claim when they say that the big drags that are taken by weed smokers train their lungs to become more efficient.

People claim many health benefits of weeds and the new federal legislation has made it legal for the patients to grow marijuana at home in a limited amount. The patients who take marijuana for various ailments now have three options to choose from. They can register with licensed producers and get their supply from them; they can grow their own supply after getting clearance from Health Canada or they can designate someone else to grow the supply for their use.

While the patients and their family and friends welcome this new move of federal legislation, some of the medical specialists didn’t like this idea. One of the doctors, Dr Doug Smith who is Fredericton specialist in physical medicine and rehabilitation has been prescribing marijuana to his patients for around ten years now. He has many patients for whom it has been a life changer, but when it comes to letting them grow their own supply he was not comfortable. In his words, “The therapeutic effects of marijuana can be quite variable depending on the strain, whether it’s indica, sativa or hybrid. Hence the patients who grow their own cannabis might have less control over what they’re getting.”
