Save energy consumption while growing marijuana easily
The recent legalization of the cannabis has encouraged a lot of people in making cannabis. This has been done to gain more market share. The people often tend to overlook the fact that the growing of marijuana needs a lot of energy consumption. The reason is that the energy which is consumed by the marijuana is more than the consumption of seven refrigerators. It has been reported that in the state of Washington the cultivation energy consumption for 400 plants is as much as 80 to 160 megawatts at an average. The similar shall increase fourfold in the next decade.
In a recent study conducted by the National Electricity board of the New York City it has been stipulated that by the end of the year 2018 the energy consumption of growing the cannabis shall amount to 1 percent of the total electricity used nationally which none the less is a great amount. The same in terms of the dollar shall amount to $6 billion each year.
There is another threat and that is the legislation of the legalization of marijuana is not yet resolved. Though it is sanctioned in the States yet the civilians and the legal enforcers are continuing their strike against the medical practitioners in the matter of legalization of marijuana. Thus, if by providence divine marijuana really gets banned once again and the production of the same become illegal then this huge investment of national property shall be at stake. Thus there is the need to restrict the energy consumption while cultivating marijuana.
Hereby some procedures are enumerated which might help in saving the electricity while growing marijuana;
a. Lights: the use of three stages of lights while the seeds are sprouting, growing and flowering shall save a lot of light bill. Use the fluorescent lamps in the first stage, the metal halide (MH) lamps for 18 hours in second stage and the 400-W or 1,000-W high-pressure sodium (HPS) lamps for 12 hours per day in final stage can save a bit of the bill.
b. ACs: the use of roof top total coolant ACs can be a good energy savior.
c. The lights must be on the plants and not on the floor or walls this shall reduce the light wastage.
d. The use of the Variable-frequency drive (VFD) retrofit devices shall control the cooling as per necessity and thus reduce energy consumption.
e. Economizers can also be a great alternative for saving electricity and energy consumption.
