Washington D.C. Readies for Recreation Marijuana. In 7 days, exactly one week from now on November 4th, Washington D.C. will vote on Initiative 71, which will legalize the possession of marijuana by adults, or decriminalize possession and use. It will be one or the other, but most are expecting a landslide victory for the proposal, which would make any decriminalization law moot. Both scenarios assume that there is no federal interruption by Congress or the Senate who still seem to support

Earlier this year The District city council approved another bill which would decriminalize marijuana to a system similar to what was approved in Philadelphia this month. This law is showing little support, since there is already a medical marijuana law in place, and the much more widely supported Initiative 71 is on the ballot at the same time. Similarly to the way Japan Gifted the capital Cherry Trees and a vast array of blossoms every year, Arjan and Franco at Green House Seed Co. will give the nations capital harvest of White Widow.

Strong Support From all Sides

Citizens in our nation’s capital strongly support the legalization of marijuana, with 63% expressing their support in to separate polls by the Washington Post. Only 34% opposed the measure. Somewhat paradoxically, less people support the decriminalization measure, which showed only 41% support. Since Initiative 71 will override decriminalization, responding in support of both measures would be contradictory since they are opposing means of regulating the substance. The poll found that Whites favored the bill more than other races.

This will be the first state on the East Coast to adopt a completely legalized recreational environment. While Oregon and Alaska are hoping to adopt similar measures this year, only Washington is considering Recreational use on the East Coast. Washington D.C. is has a similar medical system to most of the North Eastern states, but is the first to address recreational use via referendum.

Delays Have Been Seen in Several Bills

Floridians saw their state constitutional right to referendum delayed twice by efforts of incumbent republican Governor, Rick Scott. With a land slide expected in the election of Florida and Washington D.C. only an intervention by a higher power can stop these laws from being put in place by organized grass roots civics. The Initiative and Referendum process is one of the most powerful rights citizens have, and is the main strategy of marijuana activists, since bills so often get shelved when proposed in state legislature.

The question over the legitimacy federal laws outlawing cannabis will be exacerbated by the capital allowing recreational sales, which is why mainly why people predict intervention against the law. By 2016 marijuana with be available for recreation and medicine (and the occasional recreational medicine,) will be available for more than 75% of the population of the United States, which demands a federal response, even if that response being condoning the constitutional rights of states and doing nothing other than maintaining their position.
