With Donald Trump as the new President of United States, the marijuana industry is still pondering over their future course of action under his administration. Many people say that Trump would either support the rights of state or speak in favor of marijuana being used for a medical cause. However, we cannot be sure about it.

Moreover, Jeff Sessions is confirmed to be the new attorney general. It is a known fact that he is a critic to marijuana and his administration can reinforce more stringent rules making it difficult for the cannabis industry. Owing to these factors, Trump can affect the marijuana industry in the following five manners:

1. The administration under Trump can take massive measures against both medical and recreational marijuana.

With the desire to replace everything associated with Obama, the Trump administration is targeting the insurance industry by terminating 22 million insurances. At this pace, the cannabis industry does not stand a chance. The Cole Memorandum, which gave opportunities for the usage of marijuana for recreation, can be completely negated and the entire marijuana could be on the verge of eradication.

2. Recreational usage of marijuana can be terminated but medical usage may remain the same.

The retailers for adult usage of cannabis can be raided by the government and strict laws can be enforced to cut down their immediate financial resources. Since these businesses are not financially strong and thrive on money received, the recreational marijuana business could gradually die out.

3. The existing markets are untouched, but the administration new may delay or block the new states.

Most people think that the administration would not prioritize marijuana and deal with others matters at hand like jobs and health sector. In this case, Trump would not disrupt the working of the existing markets, but can modify the regulations for the upcoming new states.

4. Nothing is changed and status quo is maintained.

A recent poll displayed that a majority of Americans prefer legalization of marijuana and so it is a possibility that nothing is changed. The Cole Memorandum would function as it does and the states that have approved access for legal cannabis will enjoy autonomy.

5. Lastly, the administration under Trump can openly support the marijuana industry.

One of the highlights of the speech given by Trump after the oath taking ceremony was that he wanted to create jobs in America. The marijuana industry has been providing approximately 100,000-150,000 jobs across the nation. So, in terms of being hailed by people, this move is in favor of President Trump.

Out of these, we can be confident that it will be status quo and think that the cannabis industry will progress and stay optimistic that it will not face a setback in this current scenario. Any attempt to shut it down will only end in failure.
