Can one be certain of marijuana laws that prevail in the different countries? A consumer carried away by passion may not really be informed and end up paying a terrible price in terms of fines, imprisonment and even death in some of the Islamic countries. An age old prejudice against cannabis stands to this day when crime is associated with its consumption but scenarios are changing in certain contexts. If it is conclusively proved that marijuana is a cure for serious diseases like epilepsy, perceptions will quickly change.

With 23 American states approving medical marijuana, the markets there are gradually opening up to legal growing, distribution, possession and sale. Conditions must be fulfilled like the prescription by a doctor. It is widely believed that the medical license is misused and recreational marijuana is also available under the same medical umbrella. The pot shops refer to the marijuana dispensaries but how many of them exist is not very clear. Meanwhile a range of delectable marijuana based snacks and drinks, even vaporizing, would all be possible for the interested.

According to one authority, the 500 pot dispensaries in California earn for the state government around $1.5 billion annually. Another source disagrees and believes that Los Angeles itself has about 800 dispensaries. Not even New York could equal that!
The strict medical marijuana laws in New York
New York would soon be opening up twenty medical marijuana dispensaries. Approved diseases that invite marijuana treatments are few but could be diversified as and when the authorities see fit. Some of them are:

- Cancer
- Neuropathies
- Parkinson’s
- HIV/AIDS
- Multiple Sclerosis
A doctor’s detailed certificate would be compulsory to avail of marijuana treatment. You need to be a New York resident or a patient in the state. Bona fide cases would receive a patient ID costing $50 but the fee could be waived or reduced in special cases.
Be careful about laws and avoid becoming innocent victims
Strangely enough and perhaps justified it is that you cannot smoke the medical marijuana in New York! The dispensary will hand over marijuana for short duration treatments and certainly not for longer than thirty days. You get only pills, oils and tinctures and certainly none of them can be smoked. For obvious reasons, kids cannot go along to the pot shop.
