Cannabis and Pain: The Things Doctors Say Today
A new study confirms the effectiveness of cannabis against chronic pain.
According to a research carried out by the University of Melbourne, Australia, and conducted by Dr. Louisa Degenhardth, who then published the results in the journal Drug and Alcohol Dependence, cannabis is way more effective and acts way faster against chronic pain than any sort of prescription medication. Furthermore, among other things, a large number of prescription drugs can cause dependency and the side effects are always terrible (and they often include death by overdose).
This research has involved 1500 people aged between 40 and 50 years. All the participants suffered from either chronic arthritis, back pain or migraines. In other words, they were all in pain. Plus, all the patients had already been prescribed medications to treat their pain, namely opioids like oxycodone or morphine. During the research it was discovered that some of these patients had already resorted to cannabis. As matter of fact the percentage of the patients who used cannabis (13%) was higher than the national average, which is around 4.7%. These patients were thus able to assess the effectiveness of cannabis as soon as they began comparing it with the drugs they were prescribed. Many claimed cannabis was extremely effective, and gave it a score of 10 out of 10, i.e. the highest possible.
These kind of results cannot be ignored.
In fact, many patients with chronic pain have severe problems with addiction to painkillers. And even those who have a personality that would normally keep addiction at bay are forced to succumb to inevitability. They really have no choice: if they want to fight pain and try to live a normal life, they need to take strong painkillers. However, pain killers cause addiction and there is really no way around this.
Cannabis does not have the side effects these drugs do, and the risk of cannabis-overdose is virtually non-existent. Also, marijuana is not addictive. These results are pushing patients to support cannabis legalization. They need it and, quite frankly, they deserve it.
Fortunately, medical cannabis is conquering the world, little by little. This is great also because, to be honest, what kind of world pushes someone to choose between excruciating pain and addiction, when the third option is no pain and no addiction? And what about you? Are you in pain?
