Among the list of banned substances, marijuana is also one, but many former NFL players are hoping to change it.
On Wednesday, a cannabis convention was held at Revention Music Center in Houston prior to Super Bowl LI. Among many attendees, the former NFL player Jim McMahon was also one.
McMahon explained – “Marijuana is not a drug. It’s a medicinal herb. Drugs happen only when man puts their hands on it.”
The two-time super Bowl winner has openly admitted on his fights with opiate addiction. Other players have also come forward sharing their marijuana stories and how it saved their lives.
Former NFL tight end player, Boo Williams confessed, “I went through a real bad depression and laid down on the railroad tracks and tried to commit suicide myself so it was just by the grace of God that I found God and found cannabis as well.”
Kyle Turley, former NLF lineman said, “[I had] constant thoughts of suicide and depression and rage and all these things that were neurologically disrupting my life and I can’t say enough about making that transition.” He continued to explain that till date he doesn’t use a pain reliever like Aleve or Advil, but rather he follows a strict cannabis regimen.
McMahon’s is a man with a mission. He wishes to remove the stigma around cannabis and wants to promote its health benefits, which would be helpful not only for NFL players, but also for the public in general.
“It’s proven to help millions of people. There are no side effects other than you may get a little hungry,” he said, “[but] it’s never killed anybody.”
The event organizer Mr. Rory Mendoza said that it was the perfect time to educate people about cannabis and eliminate the surrounding myths as the nation’s spotlight would be in Houston Super Bowl.
On Tuesday, former National Football League (NFL) players assembled in Phoenix to educate people and promote the legal use of marijuana.
Kyle Turley spoke up on how cannabis helped him in his treatment of head injuries, chronic pain, and other illnesses caused due to physical injuries and mental stress caused due to playing professional football.
Kyle Turley expressed, “You don’t understand how bad you’re going to be hurting.”
They are hoping to legalize the use of medicinal marijuana. This would help the NFL players to cope with the pressure and stress both physically and mentally.
