Arizona is one of the new states in the US to have legalized recreational cannabis through Proposition 207. The law was passed with 60% of vote, and for the residents and cannabis enthusiasts, this is great news. Arizona had tried in the past to legalize cannabis, but had failed. If you are unsure of what this means for you as a cannabis user, here is an overview of the basics.

Well, you may have to wait for a while, because no date has been declared for this as yet. If you don’t want to get into trouble, at least for now, talk to your doctor and check if you can get a medical marijuana card (Arizona does allow for medicinal cannabis). In case you are interested to know, state officials will have to come up with regulations and other details related to the law by April of next year. This means, there is a wait time of at least four to five months.
Other facts worth knowing
If you are interested in buying recreational cannabis, know that there will be an excise tax of 16% on all cannabis products, besides the sales tax that state charges, which is at 5.6%. In other words, you will have to shell a whopping tax amount for using recreational cannabis, which again isn’t a bad thing in the larger context, as the revenue will be used to support various state concerns and health programs. As of now, there are around 130 dispensaries in the state that sell medical cannabis, and for these to sell recreational cannabis, they will have to apply for the new adult-use licenses.
What about limits and growing cannabis at home?
Once the new law is in place, all adults aged 21 or older can buy recreational cannabis easily, but they cannot own or possess more than one ounce at a time. Also, the rules are likely to be different for cannabis concentrates. As for growing cannabis at home, that is also going to be legal, after the law comes to force, but you can only grow up to six plants at your home.
