On Sunday, a resolution was passed by the Indiana American Legion to support the medical cannabis research, which will help to treat both the normal injuries like Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

The organization of veteran service told that they are trying to push Indiana legislators to agree for the private growth as well as for the research of cannabis for the medical drives. They further added that they will try to lessen and reclassify cannabis as a drug, which has the potential for medical use.

James B. May, from theDepartment of Indiana, told that the decision was made by the voting process by their organization members. They want the state legislature to look into the advantages of medical cannabis to treat those who are suffering from serious conditions like TBI and PTSD. These two conditions are the signature wounds post the attack on 9/11. We all are supporting the medical research of cannabis to find out the alternative ways to treat these conditions before it gets too late.

As of now, approximately 81,500 members are working with the American Legion, Department of Indiana. Previous summer, the congress was asked to remove cannabis from the list of drugs by the National American Legion, which has its headquarters in Indianapolis.

The decision to support the recent research by American Legion is based on a reason. They told that many of the members were prescribed to use opioid, which is considered to be the strongest painkiller. They are actually divided into two types – weak opioid and strong opioid. By using these painkillers, they in turn got addicted to these drugs and due to abuse of drugs, the structure and function of the brain completely changed.

According to HVMC reports, every 20 minutes, someone dies either of an intentional or accidental overdose of prescribed medication. From those overdosevictims, at least two out of every three are reported to be veterans. Well, they are hoping that if cannabis is legalized in Indiana, the numbers will vary in a better way.

May further added that by doing this, even if one veteran is prevented from dying, prescription overdose, or becoming addictedto those painkillers, the research that they have started will be worth enough. They are focusing on improving the lives of their fellow veterans and they believe it’s going to help them.
