Demand for Marijuana Legalisation Just Grows Stronger in the US
Recent studies in USA have shown a positive trend among students in the high school. A massive research was conducted in 2015 by University of Michigan and National Institute of Drug Abuse and was aptly named Monitoring the Future Survey. It has shown that the use of illicit drugs and alcohol has shown a decline among high school students in the 8th, 10th and 12th grades. The highly positive trend has been the result of continuous hard work among students by the agencies trying to discourage drug use among those who are a part of our future. The whole idea has been highly encouraging to those who have been fighting against the menace of drug use in the US.
Lowering of Drug Use
The news of low drug use comes in the backdrop of positive news about marijuana legalisation in the US. The states of Washington D.C, Alaska, Oregon and Colorado have legalised recreational smoking of marijuana by adults in controlled conditions. There are 23 other states which allow use of medical marijuana among patients of cancer, HIV, Crohn’s disease and multiple sclerosis. There is an increasing clamour to allow use of medical marijuana among the other states and increase the number of states which will let a doctor prescribe medical marijuana to those who need it. The recent studies prove that increasing use of marijuana among adults has no direct effect on drug use by children especially those in the vulnerable age group of high school contrary to claims made otherwise.
Positive results among teens
The study conducted among both public and private schools has shown that students are more aware of the lack of harm in marijuana use but have been shying away from actual use of marijuana among other drugs like Heroin, Methamphetamine and other drugs like synthetic marijuana. However, the study has also shown that there is a trend of daily smoking of marijuana among 12th graders and that has been worrisome to authorities engaged in discouraging marijuana use among students because marijuana is harmful to the developing brain of teenagers. The survey conducted during spring has shown that the students have been less able to get weed resulting in a situation where it might not be considered harmful, but not getting popular anymore as well. We can hope that the trend of lower teenage marijuana use since 2010 will continue in the future as well.
