El Niño- The First Award Winning Seeds for Green House Seeds Co.
As far as marijuana strains go, the frostier the better. Although not all of the crystals produced by the plant will be psychoactive compounds such as THC, or THCA, many modern strains have been bred to produce much higher levels of these cannabinoids. This is especially true of many cannabis cup winners, such as El Nino from Green House Seed Co. This is one of their first award winners that helped create an empire and a legacy of amazing cannabis strains.
This plant was originally produced in the nineties as a part of the white family of cannabis seeds, which includes White Widow, White Rhino, Great White Shark and the king of them all, El Niño. El Niño might not have the same notoriety that some of the other white seeds have gained, but what it lacks in acclaim it makes up for in potency. While the rest of the white family sits at around 18% THC, El Nino will produce more than 21% leaving the plant covered in more crystals than one can imagine. One can barely see the fan leaves beneath the snow drifts of THC on the plant.
Crazy Potent, Crazy Beautiful
The high is social and uplifting and is known for its longevity. As a combination of Haze, Super Skunk, Brazilian, and South Indian cannabis strains, this hybrid plant has more vigor than just about any other plant. It produces up to 800 grams per square meter, which means it will be a long time before another drought after you harvest El Niño.
The aromas of the plant strongly represent both strains, with fruity citrus notes and the obviously Indica skunk smell also present. The flavor of the smoke matches the smell, but loses the sweetness allowing some of the more subtle notes to break though. The complex variety of aromas and flavors on type of the hyper potency won this strain the 1998 High Times Cannabis cup, and it has been the favorite of many ever since.
With the Amsterdam Cannabis cup just a week away, it is time to start wondering what Arjan might reveal this year. With awards every year, it seems inevitable that he will be adding to his trophy collection next week, hopefully with a land race that none of us have seen before. Beggars can’t be choosers though, and I’ll gladly take as much of whatever I can get.
