The proposal of legalizing marijuana has taken the entire American society by a storm. The bill that is yet to be voted for in December is getting support from all over the country. In fact, many polls are being conducted nationwide to get inside the heads of citizens. And a couple of those polls are bringing forth the perspective of New Yorkers that more than half the population is actually in favor of marijuana legalization. Two different stats that have revealed major behavior patterns are listed below.

  • In one of the polls approx 61% of the New York population has revealed that they are in favor of marijuana reformation policies at the state level. Only 30% people have opposed the legalization bill and 9% are reportedly indecisive.

  • In another poll, 60% of the population has revealed that they are in favor of marijuana federal legalization. Only 30% people have opposed the legalization and 10% are reportedly indecisive.

These two and many other such polls have brought forth the perspective of Americans when it comes to the legalization of marijuana. The bill that was originally supposed to be voted for in September has been shifted to December. However, it’s after the win of President Biden that the bill is finally expected to be voted for and, hopefully, passed between 4th to 7th December and/or 10th to 14th December.

Some of the reasons that the approval of this bill is getting so much support are listed below.

  • Legalization of cannabis will reduce the violence and tension at the Mexico and US border.

  • Legalizing cannabis will generate billions of dollars of revenue for the government.

Besides, the ban on cannabis possession, sales, and use doesn’t make much sense since cigarettes, tobacco, and alcohol are already legal and they are actually the addictive substances, not cannabis.

Cannabis is neither addictive nor has it ever caused a single death. It’s much much safer than alcohol and ever cigarettes and tobacco. Hence, ban on something just for the sake of banning it doesn’t make sense to most people in New York. In fact, there are multiple researches that prove that CBD in cannabis is actually very beneficial for health.

  • It reduces anxiety and stress.

  • It works as a pain reliever.

  • It helps people suffering from depression and even joint related disorders like arthritis.

All in all, such benefits and the factors that most people in America are in favor of cannabis legalization might bring out many reforms, and those reforms will certainly be good.
