Marijuana’s relation with addiction

The knotty link between marijuana and addiction to any extent is a complicated concept. While biologically it cannot be proved that marijuana causes addiction there are still uncertainties about it coming out as a clean non-addictive drug. There are apparent reasons to why marijuana is not physiologically and inherently addictive but it cannot own up to the prospect that this drug has no meandering dependencies as it raises the passion for its consumption in a person’s mental state. This passion is akin to the temptation for chocolates, watching pornography or even a habit of procrastination.

So, Is marijuana addictively harmful?
Definitely not. There is a slight, still vivid, line of discrepancy between addiction and dependency. Marijuana smokers do not get clung to the drug for their survival does not mean that they do not get its addiction at all. Addiction, here, could be synonymous to the enticement for the glory of its effect but it may not have any relation with any dependency on the drug which the hard or synthetic drugs like cocaine, heroin, meth etc would exhibit. Evidently, dependency trends for heroin (24%: heavy heroin users get dependant) and cocaine (15%) are much higher on graph than those under heavy intake of marijuana. Just for the record, over dose (not heavy dose) of marijuana, in itself, is a flawed idea as it would need thousands times more consumption than usual of marijuana at once equivalent to a shot from the bong of the size of a multistoried skyscraper. By and large, marijuana isn’t making you its ‘bitch’, it lets you go free and make your own choice on how much you want to take it.

Does that mean quitting pot is easy?
This is another misconception about cannabis that weaves over the convention of categorizing things as either black or white. In case of cannabis, we consider the grey region because it doesn’t make you dependant, at the same time, spurious to say it doesn’t bother you with the craving. Quitting pot can be an uphill battle for the heavy smokers (like big-shot smokers, rarely existing smokers etc) as they may face certain withdrawal symptoms like irritability or appetite loss. Casual smokers, frankly, have nothing to worry about. The only factor that can keep one stuck to its usage is that innocuous inclination towards its favorable effects which is neither physiological nor neurological.

Is marijuana a soother of hard drug addiction (like cocaine, heroin)?
Yes, crack users do turn to pot for a mellower. In 90s, as marijuana practice went up cocaine use declined. Experimentally, activation of CB2 receptor in brain attenuates the dependency on intravenous cocaine in body. This activation is performed by CBD (Cannabidiol) which is the second most active compound in marijuana after THC. Pleasingly, the result of healing this dependency is not another dependency but a recovered quality which is more accepted politically and medically.
There may be enhanced sightings on how marijuana and dependency can be associated but till that unfortunate and improbable situation befalls us, we can be content and enjoy the reputable benefits of marijuana.
