Positive News on the front of Medical Marijuana Users
Marijuana has been one of the most used plants in the history of mankind. It has been smoked or used as an edible and the oil from marijuana has found therapeutic uses in history. The hemp of marijuana has also been used in the past. Early man has always found the medicinal benefits of marijuana useful in many forms and it has been utilised for the same since long. However, in modern times, marijuana is banned in most countries as an illicit substance and cannot be sourced from a store even for those who need it for medicinal purposes. In the US, 23 states have legalised sale and use of marijuana for medicinal purposes for patients who need them and have been prescribed by their doctor.
Uses of medicinal marijuana
Marijuana has found a variety of uses in modern medicine especially in pain related diseases. People suffering from HIV/AIDS, cancer or those undergoing chemotherapy, multiple sclerosis or Glaucoma are prescribed marijuana to ease their pain during the treatment. If their doctor prescribes them marijuana for consumption in any form, they are able to buy medical marijuana from stores which sell it only to patients. However, it is only legal in 23 states and in the rest of the states; it is still illegal for patients to be able to buy marijuana. Efforts have been made by activists and lawmakers to make medical marijuana available in the rest of the country and it is an ongoing struggle. A law passed by Senator Barbara Boxer and Rand Paul has made it possible to allow use of medical marijuana in states that have allowed use of the same.
Details about the bill
The bill is quite path breaking in its approach and seeks to do something which has not been done in the past. It is the goal of the bill to lessen the severity of marijuana as an illicit substance and aims to remove marijuana from the Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act. Schedule I drugs have no medical purpose at all like an illicit substance like heroin. This particular bill would place marijuana into schedule II which is meant for drugs like Cocaine or Methadone which have acceptable medical uses but are prone to abuse. As a direct result, this will directly allow marijuana to be researched and prescribed for many diseases in the future.
