Why are we making such a big fuss about dear old marijuana?

The Netherlands and Switzerland are two of those countries that traditionally Okayed marijuana. With Asian cultures like India spiritualizing cannabis as long as recorded history and beyond, criminalization does not make sense any longer. The 1937 law and the Nixon thinking certainly have to undergo change sooner or later. What about the four American states that made marijuana both medically and recreationally legal?

  • Earlier traditional and legal beliefs
  • Cannabis turned people into criminals
  • Usage led to mental problems
  • Usage was addictive and led to violence
  • Encouraged the use of hard drugs later

Marijuana does not kill either!
Now that medical research confirms the reverse under most of the points against marijuana, alcohol and tobacco should get the blame. If alcohol kills 50,000 each year and tobacco 400,000, marijuana is innocence itself. Nobody can possibly die of marijuana abuse! If we consider that 25 million Americans smoked it during the past year, we have to accept that USA believes in pot! Marijuana is the third hottest favorite of the American masses after alcohol and tobacco. So be it! Make cannabis the darling rather than the villain that it was for far too long.

Why do we not heed the overwhelming voice of research?
Some sources believe that the Obama administration does not possess the guts to legalize pot completely. They need enough justification and numbers though and laws need time, sometimes too much time. Why can’t the Federal Government bring in sweeping changes for the entire country instead of the states fighting over it one by one? Can you imagine what happens globally each day, the arrests made, the revenues lost, the gang culture and the crime?

Justice denied to patients!
By continuing to treat cannabis as the illegal villain, god only knows how many legitimate patients were denied a chance to recover and lead meaningful lives. If 23 American states made medical marijuana legal, there is certainly a lot of justification to it. Many more states are getting their laws together in favor of the wonder weed though we agree that changing legislation may take long, really long. We are not talking off the hat but modern research believes that cannabis is a wonder drug that protects from certain malignant tumors. Cannabis helps neuropathic pain and nausea, glaucoma and spasticity too. As consumers know, marijuana promotes appetite and would help cases of dementia and HIV/AIDS. What further justification do we need to not legalize pot worldwide?
