Did you know that India is the biggest consumer of cannabis and that it also has a special mention in the ancient scriptures of Ayurveda?
According to the sacred scriptures, cannabis is a pathway to holistic natural medication! Although India lacks certain laws on its consumer use, its first medical cannabis clinic finally opened up this year in the beginning of February in the Silicon Valley of India- Bengaluru.

The onus goes to an Odisha-based startup called HempCann Solutions under the banner Vedi Herbals, which aims at curing the health-related problems with the help of cannabis. They specialize in a variety of tablets and oils made from this wonder herb and also acclaims of maintaining a wellness clinic under it where anybody can get prescriptions.

It is a misconception that pot can only get you high – it has a multitude of boundless benefits of the medicines made by it. Setting an example in front of the whole world, this startup has pushed many countries like Canada, Latin America, and parts of Europe to perceive cannabis in a better and healthy way.

Ayurveda and cannabis have come a long way. The 5000-year old texts have called cannabis, which is called bhanga in Sanskrit, as a toxic substance that also proposes innumerable wellness-fringe benefits after the herb is purified. The Ananda Kanda, which is a part of the Ayurvedic texts, has a whole chapter dedicated to the herb, its toxicity, the procedure for purification, cultivation, preparation, and use.
While weed is illegal in India, the company has managed to demarche the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act as hemp plants and its seeds and leaves are exempted from this Act. Since the seeds and leaves of the cannabis contain cannabinoids like CBD and THC, the Act leaves a clever loophole for the company to use it.

After five long years of profound research, HempCann Solutions has finally seen its efforts turn fruitful. According to Sourab Agarwal, the Managing Director of HempCann Solutions, “India is the birthplace of cannabis and now is the right time to make healthcare professionals realize its immense therapeutic values…” The medicines that you can buy from this first-of-its-kind clinic have broached about helping with inflammation, downers, libido, etc; to name a few. Cannabis has proved to improve lung capacity, regulate and prevent diabetes, and even fight cancer.
